MUSIC DIRECTOR
Organize three, large public recitals per year for my Suzuki Music Studio, as
well as a yearly Christmas Concert for the Hyatt Regency in the Reston Town
Center, and occasional performances for such entities as MacDonaldŐs Corporation,
PresidentŐs Park, the Lake Anne Association, and three piano concerts with the
Fairfax West Music Fellowship[. Served as Music Director for the Centennial
Celebration of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki for the Suzuki Association of the Greater
Washington Area on October 17, 1998. Held at Constitution Hall in Washington,
D.C. the concert included 400 performers: Suzuki violin, flute, cello, viola
and piano group performances were offered as well as five pianos playing with
a professional orchestra of Suzuki alumnae. Three young Suzuki artists also
performed with the orchestra playing the Beethoven Triple Concerto. The concert
received national and international news coverage. Spring of 2001, my students
were chosen to play with the Washington Symphony Orchestra for two performances
of the Vivaldi d minor Violin Concerto at their annual Youth Concert, and invited
back to perform in a special summer concert in Washington DCŐs Sixth Presbyterian
Church.
CHORAL CONDUCTOR
Eleven years experience as a choral conductor. Skills include implementation
of music programs as an integral and supportive part of church services, maintenance
of high musical standards while working amicably with volunteer amateurs and
professionals, rehearsing of choir and coaching/auditioning of soloists as necessary.
At Unity of Fairfax, the choir doubled in size and achieved a high standard
of musical excellence under my direction. During my five years as Conductor/Director
of the Chindalay Chorale for the International Women's Club/Seoul, Korea, the
group became a highly successful amateur chorale with more engagements than
it could accept, and the generation of a treasury sufficient to build an excellent
music library. As conductor of the American Community Choir for the American
Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, prepared group for Thanksgiving and Christmas services
and ceremonies at the Ambassador's residence. Also organized string music for
these occasions. Additionally organized and coordinated programs for the Ambassador's
wife including Command Performances for the Nigerian Head of State. In Korea
had total administrative responsibility for conceiving, funding, publicizing,
implementing and directing concert series for the Eighth Army Recreational Services
as Director of the Yongsan Chamber Music Society. The series of eight concerts
included a youth concert, and Chamber Music and Choral presentations.
MUSIC EDUCATOR AND ADMINISTRATOR
Founder of Suzuki Studios in Lagos, Nigeria; Seoul, Korea and Reston, Virginia,
USA. Seoul studio trained sixty students weekly and instructed British, Korean
and American educators in using the Suzuki approach in teaching strings, especially
violin. Organized and implemented weekly repertoire classes, monthly recitals
and quarterly public concerts and youth concerts with as many as 500 Suzuki
violinists from various studios onstage at one time. Handled publicity, receptions,
and public relations for these events. Traveled three times to Matsumoto, Japan
to study with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki the originator of the Suzuki approach to music
education. Give individual instruction in violin, viola, cello and piano using
both traditional and Suzuki educational strategies. Thirty-two years teaching
experience.
MUSICIAN
Currently performing as violist with the Washington Symphony Orchestra and the
Loudoun Symphony. Also have performed as violin soloist with the Washington
Symphony and the Reston Chamber Orchestra. Have served as Principal Second Violin
and Principal Viola with the Reston Chamber Orchestra, as Assistant Principal
Violist and Violinist with the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, and as principal
and assistant principal Violist with the Washington Symphony. Formerly Violinist
with the Spokane Symphony, Pro Musica Lagos, Twenty-First Century and Trio Allegro.
Piano accompanist for Cassarno Ballet Studios in Portland, Oregon and for various
Suzuki violin, viola, piano and cello recitals and performances. Freelance in
the Washington area on violin, viola, piano and cello.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
Twenty-eight years teaching English in various graduate, corporate, university,
secondary and private programs. Most recently lecturer at George Mason University.
Director English Training Programs for Leonid Corporation, Gaithersburg, Maryland
training Omani Communications specialists in English as a Second Language Free
lance writer, journalist for Reston Times. Author of various curricula, project
documents, articles. Book on the Suzuki Method, The Magic of Matsumoto: The
Suzuki Method of Education published by ETC Publications in 1995 endorsed by
Dr. Suzuki and with an introduction by Dr. Suzuki. EDUCATION B.A. (English with

Kataoka and Cathy Williams Hargrave in Suzuki Piano Basics 1999 - 2002. Completed
and registered books 1-5 piano teacher training and books 1-8 violin teacher
training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Private study with Suzuki
Violin Master Teacher Ronda Cole, Moscow Conservatory Violist VictorYuzefovich,
and Eastman Cello Pedagogue Dorothy Amarandos.
